Birth work is shadow work. To be in the trenches with families who have to dig deeply into their own strength, is a gift to witness and be apart of.
My journey into birth work began in 2012 as I found out I was pregnant with my daughter. I continued to see my OB/GYN but knew in my heart that birthing in the hospital was not right for me and my family. I chose to start seeing a home birth midwife at the same time/ We really loved how intimate and informative the meetings with her were.
As my due-date approached, my OB stated that I would be induced soon if my labor had not started. I chose then to discontinue care with that provider. 4 weeks later I delivered my daughter at home, in the water with no serious complications. It was a life-changing experience.
Birth work then called me to serve my community - to aid in the creation of more peaceful births happening in the world. The way we come into the world matters! Parents feeling like they are informed and moving from a place of safety matters. This is the foundation of my birth work career.
4 years later I birthed at home in the water as I delivered my son. Again, the strength and tenacity of birthing people amazed me. I was awe-struck at how empowering the birthing journey is and how different both of my children's entry into the world was. Every birth is so unique.
Since 2014 I have earned my birth & postpartum doula certifications, as well as attained a 200 HR Registered Yoga Teacher certification. Recently I have been working on my Childbirth Education certification.
Serving as a home-birth midwifery assistant for over 2 years allowed me to witness many versions of normal physiologic birth. It strengthened my own internal knowledge that birthing people contain all that they need to birth their baby.
I enjoy spending time on my property where we raise chickens, garden and home-school our kids. I'm a lover of nature and animals and spend as much time outside as possible! We love to travel and show our kids the beautiful state we live in, and the amazing communities that dot the landscape.
